Hi Guys

I hope you're fine. I watched "Argo" which is a Hollywood movie . The story is about making a fake movie to get 6 americans out of Iran. In the film when they are trying to find a script for this fake movie, they choose a script named Argo. In several scenes when they are talking about this script and its name they add " f-u-c-k yourself"

In this scene a reporter asks about the meaning of the name of Argo and the producer answers : Means Argo f-u-c-k yourself!

So Im wondering what does this phrase "f-u-c-k yourself" exactly mean in here??!

Isn't it offensive?

I think there is something cultural behind the meaning and usage of this phrase??

I do appreciate in advance for your cooperation.

It means "Oh go f@ck yourself".
It is a slang, only in that movie.

Read this page. It goes back to knock-knock joke. If you are in states you should have already heard or done it before. If not, I can tell you it is only a joke. Plus argo is the the censored (bowdlerized)  version of "oh go".

How this is related to the movie? I dont know. I have not seen the movie. But it must be good luck to my understanding.

MANY YEARS AGO, A JOKE WAS GOING AROUND... AND IT WENT LIKE THIS :

"A popular radio announcer, back in the 1940's, was doing 'Man In The Street' interviews, asking people if they knew any 'knock-knock' jokes.

He came upon a drunk. He wasn't sure the guy was sober enough for this, but he asked him anyway: "Sir, we're doing knock-knock jokes today... do you know any knock-knock jokes?"

"Yeah, I know one, " said the drunk. " Knock-knock."

    "Who's there?" said the announcer.

    "Argo."

    "Argo who?"

    "Argo fuxck yourself."

The announcer almost went into cardiac arrest. In the 1940's, OBSCENITIES were strictly forbidden on the air.

He knew he was in trouble. And he was right - - the station immediately fired him!

For 20 years he tried getting back into Radio, but no station would hire him. Finally one day, a new station decided to give him a chance.

And again, he soon found himself back on the street, interviewing people, just like before.

But he wasn't afraid. This time he was prepared. During those 20 years he'd learned EVERY knock-knock joke in existence, so he was certain nothing like that could ever happen again.

Strangely, he once again came across the same drunk. He was about to walk away when the drunk yelled, "Hey! Ya wanna hear a knock-knock joke?"

The announcer hesitated, but he decided there was nothing to be afraid of. "Sure," he said.

    "Knock-knock. "

    "Who's there?"

    "Harry."

The announcer raced thru his mind, going over every knock-knock joke he'd ever heard. He'd never heard one with "Harry."

Finally he decided it was safe. "Harry who?"

    "Argo **** yourself!"

    .

(And now you know something that very few people know... why in the movie "Argo," they said ARGO FUuuuCK YOURSELF so often, but never explained why. It was all based on that old joke.)

Thanks for explanation.

I think it seems logical that it related to that knock knock joke..

And what about the usage of "go **** yourself" in which situation can we use this and say it to someone?

You use "go f@ck yourself" when you don't want to see somebody's face.
