A good equivalent with a good reference.

This is indeed a nice expression but, in my opinion, far from a "good equivalent", that because the expression is used to mean that a satisfactory ending is the result of an overall satisfactory (although occasionally difficult) course of events, or an altogether good course of events (irrespective of occasional problems) promises a good ending, or a good end justifies the potential difficulties along the way. To modernize the saying a bit, All that ends well is well. This is clearly reflected throughout the play itself.

Not THAT far.

We can use (به خیر گذشت) on two occasions in Persian:

1. to talk about a close call: you could've been hurt or something but you actually didn't; so, nothing good or bad has happened.

2. to talk about a bad situation that has ended well; so something good has happened after going through some problems.

In my opinion, the proverb 'all's well that ends well' can be a good equivalent for به خیر گذشت if we use it in the 2nd situation mentioned above. Besides, the explanation provided by Longman testifies to this interpretation.

Well Mr. Hamzeluyi, the Longman explanation, as me and my Scottish professor (who is a Shakespeare scholar) once concluded, is funnily misleading! Plus, in today's usage, "به خیر گذشت" more readily points to the first situation, which is often marked by a sigh of relief and which is most probably what the sender of this post has in mind. Don't you think so?

As for the Longman dictionary, being misleading would be a disaster. 

Anyway, I still insist on the possibility of the 2nd interpretation in Persian, while I agree that the 1st one is more common.

Yeah, there IS such a possibility; no doubt there. But then again, "به خیر گذشت" in modern Persian, as you know, refers to the removal of a potential danger rather than its replacement by a markedly positive (خیر) status, my kind and intellectual friend.

A disaster would be an exaggeration, of course. Its pros, for sure, far outweigh its cons. Yet, books, even dictionaries, are not free from HUMAN errors. To err is human...

It passed off well : به خیر گذشت  / به خوبی گذشت و تمام شد

pass off well/badly :

if an event passes off well, badly etc, it happens in that way.

Sample : The visit passed off without any serious incidents.

به نظرم در حالت فعلی به خوبی با جمله معادل فارسی میتونه همخوانی داشته باشه . موافقید ؟
