What I am saying is according to the measure of your understanding,
I die in grief for the absence of a sound understanding

If thou pour the sea into a pitcher,
how much will it hold? One day's store.
The pitcher, the eye of the covetous, never becomes full:
the oyster-shell is not filled with pearls until it is contented.
Pour the ocean
in a pitcher
can it hold more
than one day's store?
The jug, like a greedy eye,
never gets its fill
only the contented oyster holds the pearl
If you should pour the sea into a pitcher,
how much will it contain? At best, a day's worth!
The greedy eye's a pitcher never filled;
the pearl won't fill the discontented shell.
