نقش و تاثیر مهم نشانه گذاری PUNCTUATION در معنی و مفهوم جملات در زبان انگلیسی

سلام - متن زیر را (که ضمناً جنبه تنوع و شوخی هم دارد) بعنوان زنگ تفریح در باب اهمیت PUNCTUATION و تاثیر آن بر تغییر مفاهیم جملات در زبان انگلیسی در این قسمت به اشتراک می گذارم :

An English professor wrote the words:
 

"A woman without her man is nothing"
on the chalkboard and asked his students to punctuate it correctly.

All of the males in the class wrote:
"A woman, without her man, is nothing."

 
All the females in the class wrote:
"A woman: without her, man is nothing."

 
Punctuation is powerful.

But actually the sentence needs no comma as u know.

'A woman without her man' is the subject ans 'is nothing' is predicate.

That's right! at first glance no punctuation is needed and the meaning is ok _ in favor of men of course ;). But it's just for fun to force-punctuate for a perverted meaning to show the importance and function of punctuation.

While that's a clever joke to highlight the role of punctuating, the males in class made a terrible mistake punctuating the sentence using commas :-) For the first sentence, no punctuation mark is needed except for a period at the end.

A woman without her man is nothing.

The reason is 'without her man' is a restrictive prepositional phrase and shouldn't be separated from the noun it modifies.
