I believe she misunderstood you due to this phrase "your sentence"

 

I just asked a native speaker and he said that your sentence is correct.

By 'your sentence' you meant 'Mahtab's answer. But she thought you meant 'your OWN answer, in other words, she thought you asked a native if YOUR sentence is correct, and he said 'yes it is'.

I might be the least knowledgeable member of this community, but knew well enough the different meanings of the word "just" and knew what Keramus meant in the first place.

So, Dear Keramus, I just asked your idea on "How many others were there?" but you said u had asked a native speaker and s/he had proved your sentence. I infer that u thought I disproved it.

You thought that keramus asked a native English speaker to prove that HIS OWN answer is correct. But NO.

Since he had no idea to answer your question and accepts it as correct, he asked a native English speaker to answer YOUR question(whether or not "how many others were there is correct).

I tried to clarify the matter but I guess keramus did not notice my comment.

He thought the misunderstanding had to do with the word ' just'. But after that I once more clarified everything.
